ARTAS® Hair Restoration Technology

The specialists at Care4Hair in Miami know that hair loss affects confidence and self-image. For this reason, we facilitate your hair restoration journey so you can focus less on the issue and more on preparing for long-lasting results. Most patients suffering hair loss are exceptional candidates for an ARTAS hair transplant and even request this method over more traditional ones.

What Is An ARTAS Robotic Hair Transplant?

ARTAS is a fully automatic Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) hair transplanting device that operates via computer programming. ARTAS technology utilizes 3-D stereoscopic vision technology to analyze the hair from different angles and determine which follicles are most suitable for grafting. The ARTAS hair transplant process follows that of a typical FUE procedure. Follicles are removed from the patient’s donor zone and harvested in thinning or balding recipient areas.

Who Is The Best Candidate For An ARTAS Robotic Hair Transplant?

Since every patient’s needs and hair loss types differ, it is best to schedule a free consultation with Dr. Valladares to accurately determine if you are a prime candidate for the ARTAS robotic hair transplant. However, patients with the following characteristics have been known to achieve better success with ARTAS:

  • Patients with dark hair, as it is easier for the machine to detect dark hair follicles
  • Straight-haired patients
  • Males and females over the age of 25, ideally between 30-50 years of age

How Does The ARTAS® Robotic Hair Transplant Work?

The ARTAS hair transplant process will initiate as it would any FUE procedure. At your initial evaluation, you will consult with Dr. Valladares to determine if you are an adequate candidate for this procedure. If so, the specialists at Care4Hair will collaborate with you and design a hairline that suits your needs and aesthetic goals.

What differentiates an ARTAS hair transplant from other FUE methods is that it is fully computerized. Therefore, on the day of your surgery, you will sit in a chair connected to the ARTAS system, and it will monitor the donor area at a rate of 60 times per second to detect which follicles are optimal for grafting. The ARTAS digital mapping allows for safe and thorough graft dissection so that the thousandth graft maintains the same stellar quality as the first graft.

Benefits Of The ARTAS Robotic Hair Transplant

Undergoing a hair transplant with ARTAS technology has many benefits. The ARTAS system harvests up to 1,000 grafts per hour, making it up to 50% faster than other FUE hair transplant methods. Its computerized digital imaging determines the best follicles to extract with micron-level accuracy. The system also preserves the integrity of the hair better than other technologies. Since it grafts follicles with protective tissue surrounding them, they do not dry out quickly, resulting in better quality grafts.

ARTAS Robotic Hair Transplant Results

The ARTAS hair transplant grants patients natural-looking results with no linear scarring from sutures or stitches. Some weeks following your procedure, you may experience “shock loss,” which is a shedding of the hair that occurs on most patients due to the surgery. During this phase, the area will shed, but the grafts will remain healthy and intact; new hair will begin to grow in the recipient areas, and changes will be noticeable within 3 to 4 months. Hair will continue to grow steadily thereafter, until 12 to 18 months when it reaches its complete stage.

ARTAS Hair Transplant Procedure Recovery

The recovery time from an ARTAS robotic hair transplant procedure is reasonably short, seeing as this technique does not require surgical incisions or stitching. Patients can return to their regular activities within a day or two, while others feel more comfortable taking a week off to focus on aftercare.

The first week after surgery, you may experience:

  • Moderate redness and soreness
  • Crusting that should be gently washed off
  • Numbness in the donor area
  • Minor swelling on the transplanted area and surrounding sections

Rest assured, these symptoms are temporary and should stabilize within 7 to 10 days after the grafts are permanently in place.

ARTAS Vs. Neograft Hair Transplant

The ARTAS and NeoGraft systems are popular and effective FUE technologies with pros and cons depending on your hair type and aesthetic desires. The ARTAS system boasts higher-quality grafts and a quicker procedure time in contrast to NeoGraft. Its 3-D stereoscopic vision system gauges your hair density and growth angles to calculate which follicles are best for grafting. ARTAS often provides a more calculated spacing between grafts and makes follicles less vulnerable to the drying effects of suction.

However, ARTAS is not ideal for patients of all hair types. Since the harvesting process is fully automatic compared to the semi-automatic NeoGraft technique, the machine may not perform appropriately on patients with light-colored or very curly hair. Dr. Valladares may recommend light-haired patients dye their hair a darker shade before undergoing an ARTAS hair transplant. While many patients oblige, others opt for the NeoGraft method instead.

    FAQS

What is the ARTAS HAIR STUDIO®?

The ARTAS HAIR STUDIO® is a 3-D interactive consulting tool that uses the photographs a patient provides to create a simulation of what their hair will look like after their procedure.

Who should not consider an ARTAS robotic hair transplant?

While most patients will qualify for an ARTAS robotic hair transplant, this procedure is not for everyone. Patients who should not consider an ARTAS hair transplant include:

    • Those with extensive scalp scarring
    • Patients who take certain medications that cause hair loss
    • Those without a healthy donor site from which hair can be harvested for transplant
    • Curly-haired patients
    • Patients with light-colored hair who are opposed to dyeing it a darker shade prior to the procedure
How painful is the ARTAS hair transplant procedure?

The most discomfort patients feel throughout the procedure is when our hair specialist injects the local anesthetic. Following the procedure, there may be some discomfort and swelling, but typically, regular pain medication is all patients need when returning home.

How long does the ARTAS hair transplant procedure take?

Depending on the size of the surgical area and the amount of grafted follicles, the hair transplant procedure will last anywhere from 4 to 8 hours. Care4Hair’s team of specialists will be there to maximize your comfort during this time.

How long until I see the final results?

Following the initial “shedding phase” that takes place a few weeks after the transplant, your hair will continue to grow for another year to 18 months until final results are evident.

Are there any side effects after an ARTAS robotic hair transplant procedure?

As with any medical procedure, you can experience side effects including:

    • Mild swelling
    • Redness
    • Numbness
    • Scabs on the scalp
    • Scalp pain
    • Nerve injury at the donation site

However, most patients find that these are much less severe than would be encountered with other hair loss interventions.

Are the ARTAS robotic hair transplant results permanent?

Yes. The ARTAS robotic system ensures that only the most viable follicles are harvested for maximally effective results. If you follow Care4Hair’s post-procedure care instructions, you can expect your new look to last a lifetime.
